Lanark Libraries' Ready for Reading Campaign »
Lanark Libraries have initiated a campaign to encourage all children in the county to have their own library cards. Susan Snyder, Children's Librarian, will be visiting Daycares, Early Years Centres, Kindergarten classes, and playgroups to distribute invitations for parents/caregivers to visit the library regularly and to get our new "Ready for Reading" library cards for their children. When parents/caregivers visit the library they will be able to browse our new early literacy information board and take the "Ready for Reading" six pre-reading skills handout, bookmarks and parent brochure.
Research in child development has proven that children who begin school with a good basis in early literacy skills will achieve more success in reading and writing when they arrive at school.
