Children's Programs: Ready for Reading »

Ready for Reading programs are for children ages 0-4. Six week sessions begin January 10. Please note some programs have changed which day of the week they meet:

Tuesdays, 9:30-10 a.m.: Baby time for babies 0-12 months old
Wednesdays, 9:30-10 a.m.: Toddler time for 1-2 1/2 year olds
Thursdays, 9:30-10 a.m.: Story time for 2 1/2-4 year olds

On Wednesday and Thursday mornings, the Ontario Early Years Centre holds its Perth playgroup at the library from 10-11:30 a.m. Registration is required for library programs, but the playgroup is drop-in for ages 0-6. You do not have to attend both storytime and the playgroup. You are welcome to bring a snack to the playgroup, but no nut products, please. On Tuesday mornings, the Health Unit's Baby Talk program meets at the library immediately after the baby time session at 10 a.m. To learn more about Baby Talk, visit the Health Unit website.

7/12 Club The popular 7/12 Club from the summer is now year-round, with meetings on the fourth Wednesday of the month from 4-5 p.m. Register by calling (613) 267-1224. Each month features a reading corner, games, and crafts.

Teen Book Club:

The new Teen Book Club meets the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m., with books chosen by group members. Sign up to get a copy of the book to read in advance of the meeting.

Adult events:

First Thursday of each month at 1:30 p.m.: Readalikes book club. This book club will introduce you to lesser-known works that you'll love if you've read some of these popular titles. Sign up to get a copy of the book to read in advance.
  • January 5: Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf (reads like The Hours by Michael Cunningham)
  • February 2: Coventry by Helen Humphreys (reads like The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Burrows)
  • March 1: Somebody's Daughter by Marie Myung-Ok Lee (reads like Secret Daughter by Shilpi Somaya Gowda)
  • April 5: The Last Time I Saw You by Elizabeth Berg (reads like The Family Man by Elinor Lipman)
  • May 3: Metropolis by Elizabeth Gaffney (reads like Water for Elephants by Sarah Gruen)
  • June 7: Waiting by Ha Jin (reads like Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See)

Tuesday, January 24, at 7 p.m.: How to Get Yourself Published. Local author and blogger Jennifer Jilks will outline the steps to bring a book from idea to publication. She will cover writing, finding an editor and agent, and marketing. Drop-in.

Film Night International: Film Night International continues this winter with a great selection of foreign films. Proceeds support the Perth and Smiths Falls libraries. Please note: Films will be shown in Perth as of January 2012. Learn more.

Local author and blogger Jennifer Jilks will lead a workshop on Tuesday, January 24, at 7 p.m. to explain how to go from casual writer to published author. Come with questions! Drop-in.
