SUMMARY:Lanark Speaks: Featuring Tamara Lopez
DESCRIPTION:Together\, Perth & District Union Public Library and Queer Connection Lanark (QCL) are excited to present “Lanark Speaks: Queer Speaker Series.” This series features 2SLGBTQI+ community members and a range of topics: drag\, sports\, horticulture\, comedy\, business\, and identity. We invite everyone to join us in listening and learning from these speaker’s stories\, experiences\, talents\, and shared wisdom.  \nTamara (she/her) likes to refer to herself as the “One Woman Show” because of all the different hats that she wears from advocate\, to trainer\, to motivational speaker to even entertainer; she has done it all. \nTamara is an honours graduate in Psychology and Sexuality Studies from the University of Windsor and has been with the federal public service since 2005. Since beginning her career; Tamara has been active in promoting diversity\, inclusion and the importance of mental health both inside her workplace for the past 19 years as well as within her community. Tamara is also trained as a Positive Space Ambassador where she delivers Positive Space training to all her colleagues discussing the importance of the 2SLGBTQ+ community and its’ history. \nIn the community\, Tamara was a board member of Serving With Pride from 2019-2023 was a Co-Director of Halton PFLAG and was a member of the PFLAG Canada National Board. SUMMARY:Intergenerational Storytime!
DESCRIPTION:Intergenerational Storytime – in partnership with Aspira Carolina Retirement Living \nThe Perth & District Union Public Library is excited to host: Intergenerational Storytime. This program will be offered on selected dates throughout the fall and winter and will be held in the main lobby of Aspira Carolina Retirement Living. Parents\, grandparents and caregivers are encouraged to bring their children and grandchildren to enjoy stories\, songs and rhymes with residents from the retirement community\, hosted by the library’s Children’s Librarian. This program is best suited for children ages 18 months – 5 years. \n“The idea of hosting a storytime outside of the library has been percolating for a while and when a community member suggested Aspira Carolina\, it seemed like a good fit. Seeing all ages come together for early literacy is wonderful – it should be an engaging experience for all!” – Heidi Taber \nThe program is free of charge and drop-ins are welcome (no registration required).
