SUMMARY:Intergenerational Storytime!
DESCRIPTION:Intergenerational Storytime – in partnership with Aspira Carolina Retirement Living \nThe Perth & District Union Public Library is excited to host: Intergenerational Storytime. This program will be offered on selected dates throughout thhe spring and summer and will be held in the main lobby of Aspira Carolina Retirement Living. Parents\, grandparents and caregivers are encouraged to bring their children and grandchildren to enjoy stories\, songs and rhymes with residents from the retirement community\, hosted by the library’s Children’s Librarian. This program is best suited for children ages 18 months – 5 years. \n“The idea of hosting a storytime outside of the library has been percolating for a while and when a community member suggested Aspira Carolina\, it seemed like a good fit. Seeing all ages come together for early literacy is wonderful – it should be an engaging experience for all!” – Heidi Taber \nThe program is free of charge and drop-ins are welcome (no registration required). Participants will be asked to sign in upon arrival and ensure that they are healthy. Please visit www.perthunionlibrary.ca or call the library 613-267-1224  for more information.

SUMMARY:Poetry Writing Workshop with Amanda West Lewis
DESCRIPTION:Join Amanda West Lewis for a poetry writing workshop in honour of National Poetry Month. \nIn this collaborative workshop\, we’ll start with the writing prompt: “What is your earliest memory?” Memories are made of small moments\, so we’ll start small and create a series of group poems that are both specific and personal. This will lead to exploring ways that our memories and dreams can spark ideas and springboard us into larger writing projects. We’ll also look at examples of how this same memory prompt inspired the verse novel “These Are Not the Words.” \nAmanda West Lewis combines careers as a writer\, theatre artist\, and calligrapher. She is the author of ten books for youth and young readers\, including Focus Click Wind\, which was listed as one of the Best Books of 2023 by The Globe and Mail\, and the semi-autobiographical novel These Are Not the Words\, which was recommended by the American League of Poets as recommended reading in 2022. Her new book\, A Planet is a Poem\, will be launched on May 7\, 2024.
