We invite everyone to join us in listening and learning from these speaker’s stories\, experiences\, talents\, and shared wisdom.  \nDianne is a comedian and a transgender woman who transitioned later in life who especially enjoys comedy about LGBT and trans experiences. She performs standup and sketch comedy and her comedy runs the gamut from one-liners and observational humour to edgy and ribald. Dianne was born in South Africa\, grew up in Newfoundland\, and is now based in Ottawa. \nThis performance is sponsored and made possible through support from Perth & District Community Foundation. \nThis is a 18+ event. This program will be offered on selected dates throughout the fall and winter and will be held in the main lobby of Aspira Carolina Retirement Living. Parents\, grandparents and caregivers are encouraged to bring their children and grandchildren to enjoy stories\, songs and rhymes with residents from the retirement community\, hosted by the library’s Children’s Librarian. This program is best suited for children ages 18 months – 5 years. \n“The idea of hosting a storytime outside of the library has been percolating for a while and when a community member suggested Aspira Carolina\, it seemed like a good fit. SUMMARY:Line Follower Challenge with Steampunk Robotics Inc. Ages 8-14
DESCRIPTION:Each day is a stand alone workshop \n At Lego Robotics camp\, participants use LEGO Spike sets to build a robot that can complete a challenge (move items\, complete a maze\, race) or compete against other participants’ sumo-bot creations. Then\, using laptops and Scratch they code their robots and compete\, then solve structural and programming challenges. In the line follower challenge\, the attendees learn how to build a robot that follows a black line. The workings of a line follower robot are pretty straightforward. These robots have the capability to detect a black or dark line on a lighter surface depending on the contrast. They estimate whether the line underneath them is shifting toward their left or right as they move over them. Based on that estimation\, they give respective signals to the motors to turn left or right so as to maintain a steady center with respect to the line. \nParticipants are asked to please bring a snack.
