Lanark County Grows is a seed library is located in the downstairs of Perth & District Union Public Library. A seed lending library is a free exchange designed to promote healthy, local food and a stronger community. At the library, anyone is welcome to borrow packets of seeds for their garden. In return, we ask that you harvest the seeds and bring them back to us in the fall. This creates a perpetual collection.
Our initial set of seeds were donated by area growers and gardeners, and it will be sustained by you, the users. The seed library builds community by sharing resources and knowledge, giving us all the opportunity to grow and eat healthy food.
How to borrow seeds:
You do not need to have a Perth library card in order to borrow seeds. The seeds are pre-packaged in envelopes telling you their variety and origin (where known). To borrow seeds, simply browse through the drawer, select your packets, and record the number of packages you take. Just pop the form into the box provided. You can also leave your email address there if you are interested in future workshops and learning opportunities.
How to donate seeds:
The seed library is accepting donations on an ongoing basis. Please put your seeds into a paper envelope and label with as much information as possible.Seeds may be dropped off at the library during regular hours. Please leave them with a staff member for volunteers to sort.
