Support our Children’s Literacy Programs

The Summer Literacy Program provides tutoring for children in kindergarten through grade three during July and August. These children have been recommended by their teachers for extra help with their reading and writing. The Library also offers a Reading Buddies program throughout the school year. Participating in our literacy programs is proven to improve children’s attitudes & confidence about reading. We help over 100 children each year!

88 JK-Gr.3 students recommended by their teachers receive help with reading & writing

each student receives 9-10 hours of one-on-one tutoring

experience in the program improves attitudes & confidence about reading

funded entirely by grants & donations, making it impossible to run without the help of people like you

If you think your child could benefit from the Summer Literacy Program, please speak with your child’s teacher. We provide referral forms to all of our area schools (in Tay Valley, Perth, and Drummond/North Elmsley) in May of each year. If you are a homeschooler, please contact Heidi Taber at

We appreciate your generosity in working with us to strengthen our community!

Donations to our literacy programs allow us to hire and train high school and/or post-secondary students to tutor children in our Summer Literacy Program. You can donate to support our Literacy Programs via the form below, at the library at 30 Herriott St, or by making a contribution to our endowment fund, the Children’s Literacy Fund at the Perth and District Community Foundation.
