The Perth & District Union Public Library’s second floor is getting a new look. The linoleum tile on the second floor will be removed and replaced with carpet tile.
“For many years now, we’ve wanted to replace the upstairs flooring with something more comfortable and durable for our patrons” said Erika Heesen, CEO. “I’m excited that we are now able to move forward with this project using reserves, and we appreciate the community bearing with us while we complete this work”.
The library’s second floor will be unavailable to the public from November 24, 2025 – January 18, 2026 while this work is taking place. The library’s main floor will remain open and a temporary children’s area will be set up in the library’s downstairs Common Room just inside the main doors.
The library will be fully closed to the public November 24-25 and December 8-10 while the existing flooring on the second floor is being removed.
The carpet tile installation requires that all books on the second floor be packed up and stored for the duration of the project. Starting October 31, due dates for children’s and teen books will be extended until January 18. Library patrons are encouraged to stock up their home libraries with children’s and teen books to keep at home until the second floor re-opens in January.
Would you like to help out? The library is also looking for any community members who are willing to lend a hand packing and moving books and shelving during the weeks of December 1-5 and December 22 – January 2. Those interested in volunteering are asked to contact Emily Fournier by November 8, 2025 at efournier@perthunionlibrary.ca for further details.
