The Perth & District Union Public Library is located in the Town of Perth at 30 Herriott St. The town is very well known for its heritage buildings and picturesque downtown. The library is located in the Heritage District, and is a busy public building with two floors.
As per the Library’s 2025 budget, the Library has a planned capital project to remove and abate the flooring on the library’s second floor and install modular carpet tile throughout the second floor.

[received March 28, 2025]: Can you give us a rough idea of how many shelves you have in your collection?
[replied April 1, 2025]: There are roughly 335 shelves of library books on the second floor. Each shelf is 35.25″, so that’s equivalent to 984 linear feet.

Do you want us to remove the mastic (adhesive) from the vinyl tiles on the concrete as well?
Yes.
Did the mastic (adhesive) test positive for asbestos?
The library will check with the contractor that completed the DSR.
DSR contractor: Based on the analytical data sheet, only two of the three VCT samples (B and C) had quantifiable amounts of mastic on them. Both were negative for asbestos.
The library will have one additional sample of mastic tested for asbestos prior to the start of work.
Are the cupboards in the Program Room and office being removed?
No. Please score a straight line at the base of the cupboards.
Are the carpeted stairs in the children’s area being removed?
No. Please score a straight line at the base of the stairs.
The hot water tank in the upstairs kitchen and the sink in the caretaker closet – will they need to be moved?
Yes, moving and then replacing the hot water tank and the sink to remove the tiles underneath will be the responsibility of the contractor.
Is the baseboard being removed?
Please remove and dispose of the rubber baseboard in the stairwells, upstairs kitchen, and caretaker’s closet. The wooden baseboard, door frames and door jambs will remain in place.
Is new baseboard being installed?
No.

Yes, the library will accept a substitute carpet tile of similar size and quality.
